This "storm" illustration is from Wagging Tales by Dorts Stafford, a delightful book about one of Banff's families through the stories of many four-legged friends. This particular illustration of mine portrays Dorts Stafford and Snoopy in the Banff Winter Dog Race down Banff Avenue. The sled which Snoopy pulled was built by Barrie, Dort's young son.

If only Uggy, a capable performer, had been a nominee for an Oscar…

he could have danced with Little Lizzie one cute little dog!
Unfortunately Uggy, the wonderful furry four-legged performer from The Artist was not a nominee to the 2012 Oscars. Had he, he would  have swung and twirled little Lizzie Barker delighting a world-wide audience.

the dance…a lesson of love

" then there was the dance"… wagging tales book illustration a ink drawing by
 sandra santa lucia/published 2009
Training paddy to dance, a lesson of love. In chapter eight of Wagging Tales, Dorts Stafford's book about her family and many four legged friends there is a wonderful story about Paddy the dog and Barrie, Dorts eldest boy.
Barrie happened to be Paddy's favorite child. Being the oldest, he understood more about what a dog would tolerate and enjoy. He could sit on him and teach him tricks. Barrie would play ball with him and Paddy would retrieve it then saunter back to him, hoping Barrie would throw it again. Then there was the dance. Barrie would hold Paddy's front legs on his shoulders and they would prance about while we all laughed at the sight. They were good buddies.
The illustration for Illustration Friday's April 29 - May 5 topic portrays Barrie and Paddy dancing. This week's word "lesson" was submitted by  Susan Sorrell Hill.

"surrender"

Once and awhile we would catch sight of a large rabbit. Boysie, too, would spot the rabbit and bound after it, leaving Nana and I in a cloud of dust.

Illustration Friday's

This weeks subject is "surrender" for the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 3/11. I decided to go with my drawing of Boysie, chasing a rabbit, who, being a little faster than his pursuer, was not ready to surrender just yet. This illustration was for a book about a Banff family and their four-legged friends

reverse

This week's Illustration Friday topic is reverse
"Boredom is just the reverse side of fascination: both depend on being outside rather than inside a situation, and one leads to the other."
– Arthur Schopenhauer

All of a sudden Doreen let out a scream, "There's a bear on the path!"
pen and ink book illustration by Sandra Santa Lucia

Who wants to be inside…a bear that is!
The subject chosen for this weeks Illustration Friday , depicts one of the illustrations which I drew for Wagging Tails a  book about a Banff family and their four-legged friends. In this particular illustration depicting three friends who had been enjoying their hike to Johnson Lake when one of them spotted a bear!  They're leisurely hike soon became a very fast reverse speed hike away from the lake!
